IOF was chartered in 1953, a nonprofit supporting organization to
the University of Miami's Rosenstiel School of Marine and
Atmospheric Science, the School is a world leader in deep and near
shore oceanic and atmospheric circulation patterns, sustainable
fisheries, remote sensing, sea level fluctuations, global warming
trends, plankton and fisheries distribution and recruitment
mechanisms, hurricane and monsoon mechanics, and the development
of innovative partnerships for marine science research, education
and ocean observations.
